SUMMARY

For this project, the challenge was design and develop a simple, multi-page website using only HTML/CSS. I chose to create a website that combined my interests in fashion, visual design, and color theory. My solution was to summarize some of the standout looks from various designers during New York Fashion Week, and to capture the colors they were using in each look by hex code for use by other designers.

STYLE GUIDE AND REFERENCES

I designed the site with a dark background in order to create a greater contrast with the images of the looks, both in exposure and brightness of color.

The pages used an 8 x 2 grid of images, each with a color bar, which had 6 rectangles that revealed hex codes on hover.

I chose 10 designers and highlighted 8 looks each, capturing 6 colors per look.

HOVER

HOME PAGE

The nav defaulted to home, where a description of the site was featured. The home page background was created by combining all of the color bars from the various designers into one overview.

NAVIGATION AND STRUCTURE

On hover, the designers tab expanded to show the list of designers. The navigation bar was a sticky menu so that it could be accessed from any page or location within a page.

Each designer page featured a description of the designer's work pulled from Vogue's coverage of New York Fashion Week.

HOVER STATE

Each page featured 8 looks with their respective color bar. Hovering on the color bar revealed all of the hex codes tied to the chosen swatches.

REFLECTION

To expand on this website, I would have cleaned up the alignment of the hex codes on the color bar, added a feature for hex codes to be copied from the color bar, and possibly added a creative element that allowed the page visitor to pull together and download or share their own palette from the entire New York Fashion Week palette.
